Located close the Gulf of Thailand and situated both on the eastern and western banks of the Chao Phraya River, Bangkok is the cultural, political and economic center of Thailand. Also known in Thai as “Krung Thep Maha Nakhon” or “Krung Thep” meaning "city of angels," it is home to approximately ten million people. Bangkok has a tropical monsoon type climate with daytime temperatures reaching the mid-30s Celsius. March, April and May are the hottest months when the maximum temperature can reach 40 degrees. The rainy season runs from May to October, when the Southwest monsoons arrive. During this time short, but very heavy rain showers and thunder storms are likely most afternoons or evenings.

Traveling from Suvarnabhumi Airport

Opened in 2006, Suvarnabhumi is Bangkok’s international airport is located about 25 km east of central Bangkok. From the airport, taking taxi is one of the quickest and most convenient ways of traveling directly to your hotel or the conference venue.

To catch a taxi, please go to the airport taxi stands located below the arrival hall on the airport’s ground floor. Please note that all taxis are required to use their electronic meter and should not ask you for a flat-fare rate. The total taxi fare will equal the amount shown on the electronic meter, plus a 50 Baht airport surcharge. Any additional toll-road/expressway fees are also the responsibility of the passenger.

A train shuttle service is also available, this connects Suvarnabhumi airport to the skytrain (BTS) system in central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link operates daily from 6 a.m. to 12 midnight. Two train services are available: 1) An Express Line that runs from Suvarnabhumi to Makkasan station and Phayathai station [where you can connect with the skytrain (BTS) network]; and, 2) A Commuter City Line that runs between Suvarnabhumi and Phayathai station, calling at all stations en-route. Suvarnabhumi station is located under the main terminal building (B1 Level), two floors below the Arrival Hall.
