Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is firmly rooted in modern Chinese culture. After nearly half a century of development, we are now a comprehensive research university and a regional leader with a global reputation. Our eight Faculties and Graduate School offer a rigorous academic training, while our unique college system creates a close-knit community in which teachers, students and alumni can learn together, and share and grow intellectually.
Research excellence
To maximize impact and benefit to society, CUHK focuses its research investments in five distinguished fields of academic enquiry:
- Biomedical Sciences
- Economics and Finance
- Information Sciences
- Chinese Studies
- Geoinformation and Earth Sciences
Academic collaboration
CUHK has over 420 international partnership programmes with some 260 overseas institutions for research collaboration, faculty exchange, joint teaching, and student mobility. CUHK holds memberships in a number of international associations including the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN).
Unique College System
Of all Hong Kong universities, CUHK is the only one that offers a college experience. Our constituent Colleges, Chung Chi, New Asia, United and Shaw, complement the formal curricula to deliver whole-person education and pastoral care. The college system encourages intimate interaction among teachers, students and alumni. Our five new Colleges, Morningside College, S.H. Ho College, C.W. Chu College, Wu Yee Sun College and Lee Woo Sing College will further enhance diversity and add colour to university life.
Global recognition
In 2011 CUHK was ranked among the top 200 universities in the world by the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and in the same year it maintained its top-five position in the Asian University Rankings published by Quacquarelli Symonds.
